Google On-Page SEO Guide

This is The Launch guide for a perfectly optimized web page. Some of you out there may not agree with the tactics in this article. However, this was written after hundreds of hours of research and pulled from thousands of data points. So here it is (without an ass load of filler content).

My example keyword for this guide is going to be: Google on page SEO guide

1. Get your keyword in the URL at least once.
a. Keep your URL slug as short as possible

• Right: www.thelaunch.co/google-on-page-seo-guide
• Wrong: www.thelaunch.co/your-on-page-seo-guide-for-2017-google/

2. Get your keyword in the title once
a. Example 1: Google On Page SEO Guide
b. Example 2: Your Google On Page SEO Guide

3. Use the Meta description to get a higher click through rate.
a. Example: This Google On Page SEO Guide will boost your search rankings immensely with these ten…
i. Use the ellipsis to increase click through rate.

4. Content, Content, Content
a. Inside of each page there is a bulk of actual content.
i. Header Tags: Your H1 tags are to inform Google the topics and sub topics of your page. You want to have your H1 as part of a larger phrase, not the EXACT keyword: Example: Why This Google On Page SEO Guide Will Help

5. Optimize your pages for multiple keywords: In my research here are the best (top down) places to optimize your pages with the keyword/words you have chosen.
a. URL
b. SEO TITLE TAG
c. H1
d. H2
e. H3
f. Content

6. How to do this for multiple keywords?
a. Let’s say you have chosen a list of keywords

ii. How to do on page seo
iii. What is on page seo
iv. On page search engine optimization
b. Taking those results you would
i. Include it in the URL

ii. Include it in the title tag

7. IF you are trying to rank for a long list of keywords, drop the remaining keywords into the content of the page somewhere.

8. Word Count
a. This is niche dependent however this Is a good starting spot
i. Minimum 500 words
ii. Web 2.0: 1000 +
b. Also this is a good area to check out your competition. If your competition is ranking for 500 words and you are in a plumbing niche, you don’t want/need to have 3000 plus words per page.

9. Keyword Density
a. Many people come to me and ask if they’re over-optimized. They only have “Google On Page SEO Guide” on their page 4 times, but “seo” is used 40 times and “on page” is used 30 times.
b. This has Panda-penalty written all over it.
c. Pro Tip: Keep keyword phrases down to only 2-3 occurrences: once in a and 1-2 times in the body of the content on the page. Pro Tip: Keep individual words down to less than 15. What to do instead? Use synonyms.

10. USE Synonyms
a. Example: Instead of using SEO a million times use Optimization or Search Engine Optimization

11. Authority Links
a. Link out to pages with authority (DA of 90 or higher) this shows Google that you are trying to get the reader the best possible answer (aka give them the best content)
b. Pro Tip: Open the links up in a new page to reduce bounce rate
12. Image optimization
a. Keywords placed in image alt tags and file names do indeed contribute to the overall content of the page. Knowing the above, placing keywords in your alt tags and file names does indeed add to your overall keyword density of the page.
b. Knowing this (what what I said above) don’t overdo it on alt images and keywords in those.
c. Basically if you are good on keywords then just describe the picture. An alt tag was maid for visually impaired people. If you have a picture of a dog say “picture of a dog” in the alt tag.

Local Search +++

13. Imbed a map for local search.
a. If you are trying to rank locally for search terms imbed a map. Google will read the page, see there is a map, and rank you for local terms based on this.

14. Mapping a page
a. I live in Minneapolis and I have clients that are in St. Paul. Under normal conditions a customer is willing to travel to both. So let’s say a page is ranking nicely for Photofacials in St. Pual. I would use an internal linking strategy and write three blog posts about Minneapolis and point them at that page. This is called Relevance.
